Trauma Healing

Gentle support for acute and complex trauma.

Healing begins when your nervous system no longer has to carry everything alone.

Trauma has a way of changing how we experience the world. Even long after difficult experiences have passed, your body may continue to respond as though it still needs to stay alert, guarded, or prepared for danger. You may find it difficult to fully relax, trust yourself, sleep deeply, or simply feel at ease.

If this feels familiar, you are not broken.

Your nervous system has been doing exactly what it was designed to do—protect you.

At Serene Heart Wellness, I offer trauma-informed Healing Touch and Reiki to gently support your body’s natural ability to settle, restore, and heal. My goal isn’t to force change or relive painful experiences. It’s to create a safe, compassionate space where your nervous system can begin experiencing something it may not have felt in a very long time:

Safety.

When Survival Becomes Your Normal

Many people living with trauma don’t realize how much energy their nervous system spends simply trying to keep them safe.

You may notice yourself constantly thinking ahead, anticipating problems, or feeling responsible for everyone around you. You may struggle to rest, feel disconnected from your body, or wonder why life still feels exhausting even after years of personal growth.

These experiences are common after trauma.

They are not signs of weakness or failure.

They are often signs of a nervous system that has spent years adapting to circumstances that required protection.

Healing is not about getting rid of those protective responses.

It’s about helping your body recognize that it no longer has to live there.

Understanding Acute and Complex Trauma

Trauma is not one-size-fits-all.

Acute trauma develops after a single overwhelming event, such as an accident, assault, medical emergency, natural disaster, or sudden loss.

Complex trauma develops through repeated or prolonged experiences that affect our sense of safety and connection. This may include childhood neglect, emotional abuse, chronic criticism, unstable relationships, caregiving stress, repeated loss, or other ongoing experiences that required constant adaptation.

Although these experiences are different, they often leave the nervous system with the same message:

“Stay alert. Stay protected. Don’t let your guard down.”

Over time, this can contribute to:

  • Anxiety or hypervigilance

  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or emotionally numb

  • Chronic pain or physical discomfort

  • Difficulty relaxing

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or others

  • People-pleasing or perfectionism

  • A persistent feeling that something is “wrong,” even when life appears stable

Trauma Lives in the Body & Mind

Trauma isn’t stored only in memories.

It can also be reflected in patterns of breathing, muscle tension, posture, heart rate, and the autonomic nervous system. This is why understanding your story doesn’t always change how your body feels.

The body often needs an opportunity to experience safety—not just think about it.

When the nervous system begins to settle, many people notice that emotional resilience, physical comfort, and a greater sense of connection begin to emerge naturally.

How Healing Touch & Reiki Support Trauma Recovery

Healing Touch and Reiki are gentle biofield therapies that work with the body’s natural healing processes. Rather than asking your nervous system to do more, they invite it to do less—to soften, regulate, and restore.

Every session is individualized to meet you exactly where you are.

Clients often describe leaving sessions feeling:

  • More deeply relaxed

  • Calmer and more grounded

  • Less emotionally overwhelmed

  • More connected to themselves

  • Better able to breathe deeply and rest

  • More present with the people they love

  • More hopeful about their healing journey

Healing doesn’t happen because someone “fixes” you.

Healing happens when your body is finally given the opportunity to experience safety, stillness, and support.

A Different Kind of Trauma-Informed Care

My work is shaped by years of experience as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, along with advanced training in interpersonal neurobiology, trauma, nervous system regulation, Healing Touch, and Reiki.

While Serene Heart Wellness does not provide psychotherapy or medical treatment, this background allows me to understand how overwhelming experiences affect the brain, body, and nervous system. Every session is approached with deep respect for your lived experience and your body’s own wisdom.

You will never be asked to relive painful memories or share more than feels comfortable.

Your healing unfolds at your pace.

What to Expect

Each session begins with a conversation about what you’re experiencing and what you hope to receive from your time together.

You’ll remain fully clothed while resting comfortably as I use Healing Touch and Reiki techniques tailored to your needs. Many people experience a profound sense of relaxation, while others notice subtle shifts that continue unfolding over the hours and days that follow.

Afterward, we’ll spend time reflecting on your experience and discussing supportive practices that may help you integrate the session into your daily life.

There is nothing you need to do perfectly.

Simply arriving is enough.

You Deserve to Feel Safe Again

Healing doesn’t erase your past.

It changes your relationship with it.

Little by little, your body begins to realize that the danger is no longer here. Your nervous system learns that rest is possible. Your heart begins to open to moments of peace that once felt out of reach.

That is the work we do together.

If you’re ready to move beyond survival and reconnect with a greater sense of calm, resilience, and wholeness, I would be honored to support you.
